How to Install WordPress on XAMPP in Windows
This tutorial shows how to Install WordPress on XAMPP in Windows so you can run a full WordPress site locally for development or testing.
1. Download WordPress
Go to the official WordPress website:
https://wordpress.org/download/
Download the latest WordPress ZIP file and extract it.
2. Copy WordPress to XAMPP
Move the extracted
wordpressfolder into:C:\xampp\htdocs\
You may rename it (e.g.
myblog).3. Start Apache and MySQL
Open XAMPP Control Panel and click Start for Apache and MySQL services.
4. Create a Database for WordPress
Open phpMyAdmin in your browser:
http://localhost/phpmyadmin
Click Databases → Create a new database (e.g.
wordpress_db) withutf8_general_cicollation.5. Configure WordPress
Visit your local WordPress folder in the browser, e.g.:
http://localhost/myblog
Click Create a Configuration File and enter:
- Database Name:
wordpress_db - Username:
root - Password: (leave blank)
- Database Host:
localhost - Table Prefix:
wp_(default)
- Database Name:
6. Run WordPress Installer
Enter Site Title, Admin Username, Password, and Email.
Click Install WordPress.
7. Login to WordPress Dashboard
Access your WordPress site at:
http://localhost/myblog/wp-admin
Login with the Admin credentials you set during installation.
